Tested on the mats, proven in battle

At The Hurt Locker in Surrey, our coaching team brings more than four decades of genuine combat sports and operational experience. From elite military regiments to international championship rings, we teach martial arts built on discipline, real-world function, and consistency over ego.

Specialist coach Andy Jardine

With over 40 years of combat background, Andy has fought in the ring and cage since age 16 and completed over 100 judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu matches. Having operated in hostile environments from the age of 20 and trained elite personnel from the Parachute Regiment, Royal Marine Commandos, and the Police, Andy knows precisely what works under pressure.

A 2 x WAKO British Champion, 2 x GB Team Captain, European Kickboxing Champion, and IJJF Double World Silver Medallist, Andy specializes in Muay Thai, K1, Judo, BJJ, MMA, and Muay Lerdrit military tactics. His coaching focuses on precise technique, heavy conditioning, and unmatched mental fortitude.

Head coach Alex Reid

Bringing decades of high-level ring and cage mastery, Alex Reid is a veteran mixed martial artist, former champion, and former serviceman with 10 Para. Specialising in K1 kickboxing, striking transitions, and MMA, Alex brings invaluable experience from top-tier professional competition straight to our members in Slough.

His sessions blend high-intensity drills with sharp combat psychology, helping both seasoned fighters and fitness enthusiasts push beyond their perceived limits in an encouraging, disciplined environment.

Trainee coach Tron Hittarage & our gym culture

Mentored directly by our head coaches, trainee coach Tron Hittarage represents the next generation of championship talent at The Hurt Locker. Together, our team ensures every member—from complete beginners learning their first jab to experienced competitors preparing for battle—receives dedicated technical support.

We break down techniques clearly, supervise all sparring strictly, and adapt to individual fitness levels or injuries. There is no room for arrogance on our mats: leave your ego at the door, put in the work, and earn your way out.

1. Be Impeccable with Your Word – Speak honestly, keep your promises, and avoid gossip or using words to harm others.

2. Don't Take Anything Personally – What others say and do reflects their own beliefs and experiences, not your worth.

3. Don't Make Assumptions – Don't jump to conclusions. Ask questions, communicate clearly, and establish the facts.

4. Always Do Your Best – Give your best effort in every situation, recognizing that your best will vary depending on your circumstances.
